The Russell County Lady Laker Softball team picked up two wins today in Monroe County over John Hardin and Breckinridge County.
The Lady Lakers are now 4-0 on the season.
In the first game, the Lady Lakers wasted no time jumping out to an early lead to secure a 17-1 victory in three innings.
Natalie Hart picked up the win on the mound, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out 5 of 12 batters.
Emma Popplewell had a big game at the plate, hitting a three-run homerun in the second inning that really opened the game up. Popplewell finished the game with 6 RBI.
Sophie Shearer drove in two runs for the Lady Lakers, while Caroline Wells and Tarryn Reynolds each drove in a run as well.
The second game of the day was closer, as the Lady Lakers entered the 5th inning trailing 2-1 but scored four runs in the 5th inning to come away with a 5-2 victory over Breckinridge County.
Tarryn Reynolds picked up the win on the mound, pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three batters. Natalie Hart came into the game in relief, picking up the final two outs via strikeouts to secure the victory and pick up the save.
Hart and Shearer each drove in two runs, while Katie Owens drove in one run and finished 2-2 at the plate with a double.
The Lady Lakers now look ahead to two matchups tomorrow against LaRue County (2-1) and Hart County (2-2).
