Two-Vehicle Collision Reported on U.S. 127 North of Russell Springs

A two-vehicle collision was reported late Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 127, approximately three miles north of Russell Springs.

According to Russell County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Fox, the crash occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. when a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 27-year-old Lizabeth Matias of Monticello, was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to make a turn when it was struck from behind by a 2015 Kia Soul driven by 18-year-old Selena Hernandez of Russell Springs.

Deputy Fox said Hernandez was the sole occupant of her vehicle. Matias was traveling with two passengers, and no injuries were reported by anyone inside the Matias car.

Hernandez declined transportation by ambulance at the scene but later went to Russell County Hospital for examination and treatment of a possible hand injury.
