Lakers Shut Out Warren East, 3-0

The Russell County Laker soccer team picked up a shutout victory over Warren East in a drama-filled match.

The Lakers defeated the Raiders 3-nothing behind a strong team effort from both the starters and players off the bench.

Rady Mendez assisted Xavi Medrano for the opening goal in the fifth minute. Medrano then assisted Ethan Schuning in the 19th minute, giving Russell County a 2-nothing advantage.

Sebastian Betts-Jimenez connected with Leo Reyes for the Lakers’ final goal in the 69th minute.

The victory continues Russell County’s recent success against Warren East after defeating the Raiders 5-to-1 in last year’s regional tournament.

In junior varsity action, the Lakers fell 4-to-2. John Osegura scored off an assist from David Moreno in the ninth minute, and Moreno added a penalty-kick goal in the 14th minute.
