Russell County is among ten Kentucky counties approved to receive funding through the County Agricultural Investment Program.
The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved more than $2.5 million Friday for agricultural diversification and rural-development projects across the Commonwealth.
Russell County was approved to receive just over $175,000 through the program. Other Lake Cumberland-area awards include more than $117,000 for Clinton County, $130,000 for Taylor County and nearly $111,000 for Wayne County.
The County Agricultural Investment Program—commonly known as C-A-I-P—provides cost-share assistance to farmers seeking to improve or diversify their operations.
The program supports a wide range of agricultural enterprises, including livestock, farm infrastructure, fencing, water improvements, forage production, horticulture, poultry, bees and honey, timber, technology, energy efficiency, marketing and value-added production.
Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell said agricultural diversification helps build stronger farming communities across the Commonwealth.
