Wounded veterans interested in a free day of fishing and fellowship at Lake Cumberland have until this Friday to apply.
The Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery will host its 13th Annual Wounded Warrior Fishing Event on Wednesday, September 9.
The event is open to veterans who enjoy fishing and suffered an injury during their military service. The day includes a guided striper fishing trip on Lake Cumberland, a catered lunch, gifts and an opportunity to spend time with fellow veterans.
Activities begin at 5 a.m., when participants head onto the lake with local fishing guides who donate their boats, equipment and time. After the fishing trip, veterans will return for lunch, a recognition ceremony and commemorative gifts.
Environmental Education and Outreach Specialist Marsha Hart says the event is about much more than fishing. It gives veterans an opportunity to reconnect, form friendships and share their experiences with others who understand the sacrifices of military service.
Hart says the hatchery staff looks forward to the event each year and is passionate about giving back to those who have served the country.
Applications must be submitted by this Friday, August 21st.
