Military veterans will soon have reserved parking spaces at every Russell County school.
During Monday night’s meeting of the Russell County Board of Education, Superintendent Michael Ford presented a proposal to partner with the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation to install designated veteran parking signs at each school.
Board member Eric Selby made a motion to designate two parking spaces for veterans at every school in the district. The motion received unanimous approval from the board.
The patriotic signs, which cost $50 each, are designed to recognize and honor veterans who have served our nation. According to the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation, nearly 500 of the signs have already been installed at schools, churches, businesses, and government agencies. The foundation says the signs provide a visible, permanent, and low-cost way to show appreciation for military veterans.
Ford told board members that the district’s maintenance staff has volunteered to install the signs, and the reserved veteran parking spaces are expected to be in place very soon.
The initiative is intended to honor veterans who are employees, parents, visitors, and community members who visit Russell County Schools.
