Opioid Settlement Spending Varies Widely Across Lake Cumberland Area

New information from Kentucky’s opioid settlement dashboard shows how surrounding Lake Cumberland communities are using millions of dollars received through opioid lawsuit settlements.

As we reported Wednesday, Russell County has received more than $662,000 through fiscal year 2025 and has reported no expenditures.

Among neighboring counties, Adair County received more than $282,000, spending nearly $123,000. Most of that funded treatment and recovery services through Serenity Counseling Services, with additional funding supporting prevention efforts.

Wayne County received more than $408,000 and has spent nearly $130,000, including funding for treatment and recovery programs, Project DARE in Wayne County Schools, and vape detectors installed in school buildings.

Casey County reported spending $60,000 of its nearly $318,000 allocation for the Lake Cumberland District Health Department.

Meanwhile, Pulaski County received 1.1 million dollars, the City of Somerset received $382,300.00, Clinton County received $483,200.00 and Cumberland County received $228,400.00 in opioid settlement funds but ALL FOUR ENTITIES reported ZERO expenditures through fiscal year 2025.

Local governments are required to file updated spending reports each year by August 31, and the state’s online dashboard will continue to be updated as additional opioid settlement funds are received and invested in communities across Kentucky.

Kentucky’s new online dashboard allows the public to track opioid settlement funding and how communities across the Commonwealth are investing those dollars to address addiction, recovery, and prevention efforts.
