A Clinton County man was recently indicted in connection to a decades-old child sexual abuse investigation.
62-year-old James Shelton was indicted on charges including human trafficking – forced labor, rape 1st degree, incest, sexual abuse first degree, and sodomy first degree.
Shelton was arrested in June by Kentucky State Police on charges stemming from a cold case investigation that initially began in 1999.
At the time, a state police trooper received a report alleging Shelton had sexually abused his juvenile daughter, but the case went cold due to a lack of evidence.
This year, new information came to light, prompting KSP Post 15 to reopen the investigation and arrest Shelton.
Shelton was arrested this week on an indictment warrant. He is lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.
