Starting tomorrow, an individual’s license or identification card will need to be REAL ID-compliant to fly domestically in the United States or enter federal buildings.
A REAL ID can be received by visiting one of the regional driver’s license offices. However, the offices closest to Russell County remain extremely busy.
According to the online appointment schedule, no appointments are available to receive a REAL ID at the Columbia or Somerset offices until June.
Other nearby office such as Danville and Bowling Green are not scheduling REAL ID appointments, according to the state website.
The Adair County Community Voice recently reported there were 50 people waiting outside the Columbia office in a line when the office opened.
A passport can be used to fly domestically or enter federal buildings instead of a REAL ID.
