The Wayne County School District announced yesterday the death of a 4th-grade student from injuries sustained in a car wreck last week.
Caroline Alvarez, a 4th-grade student at Monticello Elementary, passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a car wreck in Clinton County last week.
The accident occurred last Thursday just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 127 and Highway 558 in Clinton County. According to Kentucky State Police, 21-year-old Kayelyn Garrett of Livingston, Tennessee, was traveling west on KY 558 when she entered the intersection into the path of a truck operated by 18-year-old Derek Guffey of Albany.
Garrett was transported to the Medical Center in Albany, where she passed away. Alvarez was a passenger in Garrett’s vehicle.
Guffey was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital for serious injuries from the collision.
The Wayne County School District said they have counselors and support staff available for students at Monticello Elementary.
