A Somerset man who was indicted on rape and sodomy charges by a Russell County grand jury in December is now facing federal charges.
32-year-old Jesus Alberto Chavez was indicted in federal court last Thursday on five counts of production of child pornography. The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury at the U.S. District Court in London.
If convicted on the federal charges, Chavez is facing 15-30 years in prison. Chavez could also be under supervised release for the rest of his life.
Chavez was indicted in Russell County in December on charges including rape third degree and sodomy third degree. He was indicted in Pulaski County earlier this month on charges including rape and sodomy third degree, human trafficking, and other charges.
Chavez remains lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
