Lakers defeat Johnson Central, fall to Boyd County in 2A semifinals

The Laker Baseball team defeated Johnson Central 2-1 in the opening round of the Kentucky 2A state tournament before falling to Boyd County 8-0 in the semifinals on Saturday.

Mayes Gosser came up big for the Lakers in the opening round, finishing the day with 2 hits and 2 runs batted in. Blaine Melton put together a strong performance on the mound, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings and striking out 7 batters.

Owen Loy and Ayden McGowan each recorded a hit in the loss to Boyd County.

The Lakers return to action tonight, going on the road to play Boyle County. That game gets underway at 5:30 this evening.
