Wayne County Schools superintendent resigns less than two years after accepting job

Wayne County Schools Superintendent Don Neal has resigned, less than two years after accepting the job.

After an executive session that lasted more than two hours Wednesday night, the Wayne County Board of Education voted to accept Neal’s resignation.

The board voted to name Brian Dishman, the district’s chief academic officer, as the interim superintendent.

When Neal was hired in July 2023, a motion was initially made to hire Dishman as Superintendent. However, that motion was narrowly voted down by a 3-2 vote before Neal was approved by the same margin.

According to reports, a contract buyout was part of the agreement between Neal and the school board, but financial details have not been released.
