A weekend fishing tournament taking place on Lake Cumberland brought several people into Russell County.
Tourism Director Danielle Wilson said the NBAA tournament has 117 boats participating. Registration was held yesterday evening at the Russell County ANC.
Participants came from 19 different states, with some driving nearly 20 hours to participate.
Wilson said the tournament is bringing plenty of local spending as well. The tournament had a cost of $5,000, but estimates by the tourism office indicate those participating have spent a combined total of nearly $190,000 in the area.
The tourism office surveyed 162 of the participants in the tournament, and around 80% or more are staying in Russell County.
Wilson told WJRS News many of the tournament’s participants talked about eating at local restaurants as well.
The tournament is underway through Saturday.
