County tax bills have been sent out to Russell County property owners.
This year, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office will handle more than $12 million in local taxes. This year’s tax total is around $500,000 higher than last year’s tax total due to the rise in local property values.
A two-percent discount is available for those paying their property tax bill from now through November 11. To avoid a five-percent penalty, tax bills should be paid before the end of the year.
Tax bills paid between January 1 and January 31 will incur a 5-percent penalty, and those paid between February 1 and April 15 will incur a 10-percent penalty along with another 10-percent add-on fee.
Anyone with questions about their property tax bill can contact the Russell County Sheriff’s Office or stop by the courthouse.
