The Russell County Fiscal Court restored $25,000 in funding to the local tourism office after it was taken out of the county’s budget.
Russell County Tourism Director Danielle Wilson spoke to the fiscal court at its most recent meeting to discuss the importance of that funding and request the fiscal court reinstate it.
Magistrate Mickey Garner said the funding was initially removed because of funds the tourism office is now able to receive from taxes on things like houseboat rentals.
Wilson told the court the funding for tourism helps secure notable events like a major fishing tournament coming to Lake Cumberland in 2026.
Wilson noted that Russell County saw an increase in economic impact from accommodations last year, which she pointed to as proof that the promotion work the tourism office engages in is working.
After about 15 minutes of discussion, the court voted unanimously to restore the $25,000 in funding.
