Wet/Dry issue resurfacing in Clinton County

The issue of alcohol sales in neighboring Clinton County is resurfacing.

According to a report in the Clinton County News, a notice to circulate a wet/dry petition was filed in the Clinton County Clerk’s office last month.

The petition would need a minimum of 631 signatures to be placed on the ballot. State law says the minimum number of signatures is equal to 25 percent of the votes cast in the last general election.

The effort is being led by Junior Cecil, one of the principal owners of Southern Kentucky Distillery, located in Cumberland County on Ky. 90, just across the Clinton County line.

A similar effort fell short two years ago when the petition didn’t reach the required number of signatures, although the threshold for that petition was 1,070 signatures.

The sale of alcohol is legalized in some form in each of Clinton’s neighboring counties.
