Lady Lakers fall in 4th Region Tournament to Bowling Green

The Russell County Lady Laker Basketball team fought hard in its 4th Region tournament matchup with Bowling Green yesterday, but fell to the Lady Purples by a score of 44-40.

The Lady Purples grabbed the early lead, leading 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and 20-16 at halftime.

The Lady Purples would hold on to that four-point lead going into the 4th quarter, but were able to build the lead to 15 with about three-and-a-half minutes remaining. Trailing 40-25, Russell County went on a 15-4 run to close the game, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Lady Purples who hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Aniyah Coffey led Russell County with 16 points in the game, which included 14 points in the second half.

The Lady Lakers finish the season with a final record of 18-12.
