Eli, Russell Springs Fire Departments battle at Cumberland Condos

The Eli Fire Department was called out early Friday morning to a fire at Cumberland Condos, formerly known as Alligator Inn off Highway 76.

Eli Fire Chief Marty Kazsuk told WJRS News crews were called out at about 3:30 Friday morning after reports came in of heavy smoke coming from the roof of two of the rooms.

Kazsuk said there was a working fire in the attic space of the building with two rooms sustaining major damage.

Overall, the remaining rooms were saved from heavy damage.

About 10 firefighters from the Eli Fire Department responded to the call and members of the Russell Springs Fire Department responded to assist.

Kazsuk said good teamwork at the scene between the two agencies led to the fire being extinguished quickly.

Crews were on scene for about 3 hours, and Kazsuk said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
