Daniel H. Hawkins, age 95, of Jamestown

Daniel H. Hawkins, of Jamestown, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Fair Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation.  He was 95 years of age.

Mr. Hawkins was born August 31, 1928, in Walton, son of the late J. Fred and Lydia Anderson Hawkins.  He was a veteran, serving his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps.  After being discharged from the military, Mr. Hawkins returned to his job at American Standard, in Louisville, where he remained until his retirement.  His work at American Standard allowed Mr. Hawkins to enjoy summer weekends and the month of August every year on the houseboat on Lake Cumberland.  His trips to the lake began years before the State Dock was built, where a close bond was established with the other lake-goers, making their lake community friendships lasting ones.  Mr. Hawkins was a “shade-tree mechanic” who worked on boats and was well-known as the rescuer of many stranded boaters on the lake.  He was an avid fisherman and boater.  Mr. Hawkins was a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Daniel (and Gayle) Hawkins, of Jeffersontown; his daughters, Diane (and Roger) Devine, of Bedford, and Brenda Hawkins, of Brandenburg; his sister, Charlotte Bailey, of Magnolia; his grandchildren, Shannon (and John) Loveless, Terry Wayne (and Darlene) Gibson, Jack Daniel Gibson, Andrew Hawkins and Brian Devine; his granddaughter-in-law, Tiffany Devine; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Mr. Hawkins is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Catherine McCubbins Hawkins; his daughter, Vicky Lynn Hawkins; his brothers, Frederick Hawkins, Edgar Hawkins, Albert Hawkins, James Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins and Marion Hawkins; and his grandson, Roger Devine, Jr.

Memorial Services are 1:00 p.m., CST, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Russell Springs First Baptist Church, with Bro. Christian Naylor officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Russell County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held after 10:00 a.m., CST, Tuesday, until time for services.
