RCHS Baseball defeats Cumberland in 4 innings

The Russell County Laker Baseball team defeated Cumberland County in 4 innings in district tournament action last night, picking up a 17-0 win over the host Panthers.

With the victory, the Lakers clinch a spot in the 4th Region tournament and move on to the district championship tonight.

Mayes Gosser led Russell County with 6 runs batted in, including a three-run home run in the 4th inning that ended the game.

Trace Stringer led Russell County in hits with 3 in the game, while driving in 4 runs. Adam Walters finished with a pair of hits and a pair of runs batted in.

On the mound, Austin Bartrug pitched 4 shutout innings, giving up just 3 hits while striking out 6 batters.

The Lakers will take on Monroe County in the district championship tonight at 6:30 at Veterans Park in Cumberland County. You can listen to all the action live on Laker Country 104.9 this evening with pregame beginning at about 6:15.
