Russell County sees increase in unemployment

According to new data released by the Kentucky Center for Statistics, Russell County saw an increase in unemployment last month.

Russell County’s unemployment rate was 5.6 percent last month, up from 5.2 percent in July 2022.

Neighboring Cumberland County had the lowest unemployment rate in the district, and one of the lowest in the state, at 3.6 percent.

Unemployment rates in other neighboring counties include Casey at 4.7 percent, Pulaski County at 5.3 percent, Clinton at 5.6 percent,  Adair at 6 percent, and Wayne at 6.1 percent.

Nearby McCreary County had the highest in the district at 6.7 percent.

In total, 98 of Kentucky’s 120 counties saw an increase in unemployment from a year ago.
