Russell County considered to be at medium risk for radon

Russell County, along with many other counties in the area and state, are considered to be at risk for radon exposure.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is colorless, tasteless, and odorless, and is the second-leading cause of lung cancer, according to the World Health Organization.

Russell County is considered to be a medium risk based on rocks in the area, according to The University of Kentucky’s Kentucky Geological Survey.

Radon test kits for your home are available through the Kentucky Radon Program. Data from UK shows only three of every 100 homes in Russell County have been tested for radon.
