Wayne County man arrested after axe attack

A Wayne County man was arrested after reportedly attacking another man with an axe, and attempting to attack two others.

22-year-old John Hernandez was arrested and charged with assault first degree and three counts of wanton endangerment.

According to Monticello Police, officers responded Monday evening to an assault call at a residence on Rankin Street. Upon arrival, officers found two men in the middle of the street who had been fighting.

An investigation revealed that Hernandez struck Robert Casada multiple times with an axe, causing serious physical injuries to Casada’s head and arm.

Hernandez also reportedly chased and swung the axe at two others, threatening to kill them. Those two were not injured.

Casada was treated by Wayne County EMS and then transported to the Wayne County Hospital where he was airlifted to the U.K. Medical Center for further treatment.
