Eight overdose deaths reported in Russell County last year

The Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy released its annual Overdose Fatality Report this week, with eight overdose deaths being reported in Russell County last year.

That’s an increase locally from the year prior, with the office reporting fewer than five overdose deaths in 2021.

Looking at neighboring counties, 28 overdose deaths were reported in Pulaski County, nine in Adair County, and less than five were reported in Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Wayne County.

Overall, Kentucky saw a slight decrease in the number of overdose deaths in 2022 as opposed to the year prior, with about 115 fewer deaths being reported in 2022 than 2021.

The age group most affected by overdose deaths was those between the ages of 35-44 and 45-54.
