Traffic control measures over Wolf Creek Dam to begin next month

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this week said that American Bridge Company will perform elevation surveys of the existing tainter gates for Wolf Creek Dam next month.

The surveys will take place May 15th through the 26th. During that time only one lane of traffic on U.S 127 across the dam will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

This work is part of the Corps’ $109 million contract to replace the tainter gates at Wolf Creek Dam.

A study performed back in 2016 revealed that the 10 spillway tainter gates are overstressed.

During this time, portable traffic lights will be used to control traffic. The traffic lights are set for a maximum three-minute wait on RED.

The project is fully funded by the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022.
