Looking at differences between FY 23 and FY 24 county budgets

The Russell County Fiscal Court approved the first reading of its fiscal year 24 budget earlier this month.

That budget has received approval by the state local finance officer.

A noticeable change between the two budgets is county attorney secretary salaries.

In the current budget, or fiscal year 23, county attorney secretary allocations were budgeted at $77,120. For FY 24, that allocation is $39,534.

WJRS News has learned that a portion of that roughly $77,000 was for the assistant county attorney, which was allotted $30,831 in the FY 23 budget, and the difference in money was moved from the elevator replacement line item in the FY 23 budget near the end of the budget planning period.

In the FY 24 budget, the assistant county attorney salary allocation is up around $6,300 to a total of $37,130, while the elevator replacement line item is back up to $60,000 from $20,000 in FY 23.
