Adair County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Thursday Morning Injury Crash

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred early Thursday morning on Highway 55 South.

Sheriff Gary Roy says deputies responded to the 4000 block of Highway 55 South at approximately 6:20 a.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, Dustin McGuffin was traveling southbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane. Shawbtae Giftee, of Indiana, was traveling north toward Columbia when she observed McGuffin’s vehicle in her lane. Authorities say Giftee sounded her horn several times, slowed her vehicle, and attempted to move into the southbound lane to avoid a collision. Investigators say McGuffin then overcorrected, and the two vehicles collided.

Adair County EMS and the Adair County Fire Department responded to the scene, providing medical care to those involved while also assisting with traffic control and scene safety.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Emily Wall of the Adair County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Sergeant Josh Durbin.
