A local dessert auction will help make Christmas brighter for children in need and residents of Fair Oaks nursing home in Jamestown.
Lake Cumberland Area Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #68 will hold its auction Saturday, November 14th, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the lodge’s Facebook page.
Officer Corey Meyer, the chapter’s vice president, talked with WJRS NEWS about the live auction and how proceeds support “Shop with a Cop” and “Christmas with Cops at Fair Oaks.”
Children participating in “Shop with a Cop” are selected by School Resource Officers, with assistance from the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers at local schools.
The goal is $300 per child, with half spent on toys and half on clothing.
Last year, the holiday efforts benefited 20 children and approximately 100 residents at Fair Oaks, where the lodge provides gift baskets and other items.
Businesses and individuals can also contribute money or sponsor a child. Meyer explains how to help.
Desserts purchased during the November 14th auction must be picked up that same day at Russell Springs Elementary School.
To donate or sponsor a child, contact any member of F.O.P Lodge #68, or call Corey Meyer at 270-566-5778.
All auction proceeds and monetary donations support the lodge’s two Christmas programs.
