Looking at differences between FY 23 and FY 24 county budgets

The Russell County Fiscal Court approved the first reading of its fiscal year 24 budget earlier this month.

That budget has received approval by the state local finance officer.

Here are a few noticeable differences in the current FY 23 budget vs the upcoming FY 24 budget. Several funds are seeing increases in the FY 24 budget.

The general fund has an increase of roughly $318,000.

The road fund has an increase of roughly $28,000.

The jail fund has an increase of about $122,000.

The dispatch fund has an increase of approximately $38,000.

One noticeable line item increase is in courthouse maintenance, which saw its appropriation go up roughly $60,000 in the upcoming fiscal year.

The county also increased allocations for social security, retirement, and insurance for county employees due to higher costs in those expenses.
