Ford expects school board to pick up extra SRO costs

Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford said he expects the school district to pick up the remaining costs involved with having a school resource officer at each school after the COPS grant expires in June.

Sheriff Derek Polston has been speaking at local government meetings over the past two weeks about the issue, as the COPS grant that funds resource officers at Salem and Russell Springs Elementary will expire June 30 and Polston said the sheriff’s office will have to pull out of its portion of funding for an officer at Jamestown Elementary.

Ford spoke to WJRS News about the issue following Monday night’s board of education meeting.
