Lady Lakers outlast Monroe County in 16th District softball showdown

The Russell County Lady Lakers defeated the Monroe County Lady Falcons in a 16th District softball showdown at the Kay Morris Softball Complex last night.

The Lady Lakers came out on top 13-12 to pick up their second win of the season to move to 2-3 and 1-0 in district play.

The Lady Lakers were paced offensively by freshman Rylen McGowan, who had a big night at the plate including a three-run homerun early in the game to boost the Lady Laker offense.

The Lady Lakers will go on the road Thursday to take on Casey County before heading south to play in the Softball Beach Bash in Florida next week.

Freshman Rylen McGowan celebrates a big play with assistant coach Joey Bell.
