Fiscal court votes to pull time zone change petition, approves occupational tax change

In a total turn from their vote almost one month ago, the Russell County Fiscal Court voted to rescind its petition to the federal government to move to the eastern time zone.

Judge Executive Randy Marcum brought a motion to table the petition for further discussion, but magistrate Steve Richardson instead made a motion to rescind the petition, leaving Russell County in the central time zone.

The magistrates voted 5-0 to rescind the petition, just 25 days after voting 5-0 in favor of the petition.

In other news from the meeting, the court held a second reading and voted unanimously to approve the 0.25 percent increase on the occupational tax.
