Adair Fiscal Court says ‘no’ to occupational tax, for now

In neighboring Adair County, the fiscal court voted down a measure earlier this week that would have imposed a one percent occupational tax in the county.

Magistrate Terry Hadley was the lone vote in favor of implementing the new tax, siding with new Adair County Judge-Executive Larry Russell Bryant in the matter. Each of Adair’s six adjoining counties, including Russell County, currently have some sort of occupational tax.

Bryant has said the occupational tax is needed to generate additional funds for the county to operate on. It is unclear what the Adair County Fiscal Court’s next move will be involving the matter.
