RCHS fares well in new state assessment data

Russell County High School fared well in last year’s state assessments, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

The state implemented a new color-coding system, and Russell County High School and Russell Springs Elementary School scored in the green category, the second-highest score possible.

Russell County High School scored yellow, or medium level, in the combined reading and math. RCHS also scored yellow in the science, social studies, and writing categories.

RCHS had more students perform at a proficient or distinguished level in mathematics, social studies and combined writing.

RCHS students performed at novice or apprentice level at a rate either lower than or on par with state average in each category.

On the ACT, last year’s RCHS juniors scored higher than state average in each category, with a composite score of 18.7 compared to 18.3 statewide. RCHS students exceeded state level the most in English, with a 0.6 percent higher rate than the state average.
