Police identify Michigan man as suspect in Eli watercraft thefts

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office, along with other law enforcement agencies in and out of state, have identified the suspect in the recent theft of at least three boats and two jet skis in the Eli community.

The male suspect, who was not named by police, is a Michigan native. He was driving a Dodge Cummins diesel, charcoal gray in color with a matching bed cover when the watercraft thefts occurred.

The suspect was recently pulled over in Michigan but successfully fled, but not before authorities were able to obtain a photo of the suspect.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office says this is still an active criminal investigation and charges are forthcoming.

Deputy Dustin Bunch is leading the investigation for the sheriff’s office.
