Death toll from EKY floods continues to climb

The death toll from the flooding in eastern Kentucky last week continues to rise.

On Sunday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that the death toll stood at 28, and the number could increase even more in the coming days.

More than half of the deaths were in Knott County, where 15 people have died. Six deaths have been reported in Breathitt County, three in Perry County, and two each in Clay and Letcher counties.

A federal disaster declaration was declared for 13 eastern Kentucky counties by President Biden and Beshear has declared a state of emergency for the situation.
