The Russell County Fiscal Court voted to approve a measure Monday night that would lower the county’s tax rate on real property for the first time since 1994.
The county took the compensating rate, which lowered the rate from 6.7 cents per $100 of assessed value to 6.5 cents.
An increase in assessed property values in the county will allow the county to lower the tax rate while continuing to bring in a nearly identical amount of revenue.
Judge Executive Gary Robertson told WJRS News he believes it’s the first time the county has lowered the tax rate since 1994.
