Eli watercraft theft suspect arrested in Michigan

A male suspect, who was being sought by local authorities in the recent theft case of three boats and two jet skis in the Eli community, was arrested Tuesday in Michigan, according to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was identified by police as Scott Swartz.

Swartz was allegedly the driver of the Dodge Cummins diesel that towed the watercraft when the thefts occurred.

Swartz was pulled over in Michigan earlier this week but successfully fled from law enforcement before authorities caught up with him on Tuesday.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office says local charges are forthcoming and several stolen items are in the process of being recovered.

Deputy Dustin Bunch is heading up the local investigation for the sheriff’s office.
