Work on Mt. Olive Solar Farm set to begin in September

Work on the Mt. Olive Solar Farm project is set to begin in just a couple months.

A representative from the company backing the solar farm project was at Monday’s meeting of the Russell County Fiscal Court and said the plan is to begin work on the project in September.

On the county’s end, surety bonds were sold for the county roads that will primarily be affected by the work, which will mainly include Sand Road and Mt. Olive Creek Road.

These surety bonds ensure that if the company damages these roads during the construction process, funds will be received to make any necessary repairs.

The project plans to utilize roughly 440 acres of farmland off Sano Road. Solar panels are going to be placed on the land to gather energy that can be sold back to power providers like East Kentucky Power Cooperative to generate electricity.

Work on the project is estimated to take about one year.
