Two week ‘dead period’ for school athletics ends this weekend

The KHSAA mandated two-week “dead period” for Russell County athletics and coaches comes to an end this weekend.

Beginning back on June 25 and running through this Saturday, July 9th, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association says athletes and coaches are not to have contact with one another and all school facilities are off-limits, among other limitations.

The “dead period” was implemented in the mid-1990s following an almost year long task force review to deal with a number of issues around year-round athletic activity, according to KHSAA bylaws.

Beginning next week, athletic activities around the RCHS campus will pick up as the fall athletic season inches closer.
