Russell Co. unemployment rate is 5.5%

Russell County’s unemployment numbers continue to be the highest in the Lake Cumberland area, although unemployment has dropped significantly over the past year in the county.

According to data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics, Russell County’s unemployment rate for the month of June was 5.5 percent, the highest of the 10 counties in the Lake Cumberland District.

However, Russell County saw a significant decrease in unemployment from one year ago, dropping 1.1 percent.

In the area, Cumberland County had the lowest unemployment rate last month at just 3.2%, followed by Green County at 3.3%.  Taylor County’s unemployment rate was 4.0%, Casey County was at 4.1%, and Adair County was 5.0%.

Neighboring Wayne County was at 5.3 percent and Clinton County was at 4.8 percent.

Statewide, unemployment dropped in 119 of 120 counties, with the exception being Robertson County where the unemployment rate stayed the same.
