A heat advisory is in effect today just off to the west of the Lake Cumberland area with heat index values expected to reach 100 to 105 degrees. In our area, it will still be hot with temperatures in the 90s and heat index values reaching near 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Also, young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
