A native of neighboring Cumberland County was one of two people killed in a crash on I-165 on Tuesday afternoon, according to Kentucky State Police.

Angel Perez, 38, of Louisville, was driving a 2007 International tractor-trailer northbound on I-165 when he struck a 2002 GMC truck that was stationary in the construction area near the 20-mile marker.

According to police, the tractor-trailer came to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway where a fire ignited and engulfed the vehicle. The driver of the truck was identified as James Gilbert, 43, of Cumberland County, who was currently living in Bowling Green. He had worked with Reynolds Sealing and Striping of Bowling Green since 2013.

Perez and Gilbert were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County Coroner’s Office.
