Laker Country 104.9 WJRS and the Russell County Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to host a forum for local candidates in the May primary election.
The forum, which will take place Thursday, May 5 from 6-9 p.m. at the Russell County Auditorium, will feature candidates running for Russell County Judge Executive, County Clerk, Sheriff, and Coroner.
The forum is open to the public, and will be broadcast live on Laker Country 104.9 for those who aren’t able to attend in-person.
Laker Country’s Zac Oakes said the candidate forum will serve as an excellent opportunity for the public to hear directly from the candidates.
“This forum is a great opportunity for the candidates to speak to the citizens of Russell County and lay out their vision for the community from their respective offices,” Oakes said. “I firmly believe in the importance of voters being informed, and this forum will serve as a great opportunity for people to learn more about the candidates running for office and make an informed choice when they head to the ballot box. At WJRS, we are committed to informing the community and this is just another way that we can do that.”
Russell County Chamber of Commerce President Marisa Ramsey said the Chamber is excited to be a partner in the upcoming forum, and commended those running for local office.
“The Russell County Chamber of Commerce is delighted to partner with WJRS to host this year’s Candidate Forum,” Ramsey said. “At our monthly Chamber meetings, we are working through the book Dare to Lead so it’s appropriate that the Chamber would be a part of introducing Russell County to the slate of candidates who are doing just that. It takes a lot of courage and a deep commitment to your community to run for and hold public office. Our hope is that the forum will provide a space for dialogue as we choose the leaders who serve our county over the next few years. I am looking forward to hearing from some daring leaders on May 5.”
Laker Country’s Derek Aaron said he’s excited for the partnership between WJRS and the Chamber of Commerce for the forum.
“The partnership between the Russell County Chamber of Commerce and Laker Country to provide this candidate forum is a testament to what working together can accomplish,” Aaron said. “The forum will provide a way for listeners to hear directly from the candidates and that, in turn, will allow them to make a more educated vote on Primary Election Day. We appreciate the candidates taking the time out of their campaign schedules to participate in the the forum and know it will be beneficial for Russell County voters.”
