White House extends pause on federal student loan repayments

The White House has extended the pause for repayment of federal student loans through August 31.

The repayment freeze, which has been in place since the beginning of the pandemic, was scheduled to expire at the beginning of May.

In a statement Wednesday, the Department of Education said that it will allow all borrowers with paused loans to receive a “fresh start” on repayment by eliminating the impact of delinquency and default and allowing them to reenter repayment in good standing.
