County to use ARPA funds to replenish road fund

The Russell County Fiscal Court voted unanimously to use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to replenish the county’s road fund from vehicle and equipment purchases at Monday night’s fiscal court meeting.

The court voted to use about $470,000 in ARPA funds to offset the cost of new trucks and snow removal equipment that the county purchased last year to replace aging and ineffective road equipment and vehicles. The county purchased one large dump truck and three smaller trucks along with snow plows and salters, along with a tractor.

Judge Executive Gary Robertson said the rules for use of ARPA funds have expanded and allow use for governmental purposes to offset losses, so the use of ARPA funds for the road equipment is now viewed as an allowable expenditure.
