Gossage’s 5 TD game leads Lakers to win over Casey

Russell County’s senior quarterback Gavin Gossage scored five total touchdowns Friday as the Lakers bounced back from a two-week COVID hiatus and won their first game of the 2021 season with a 45-42 win over Casey County Friday night.

Gossage ran for 100 yards and 4 touchdowns on the night. Through the air, he completed 9 of 13 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown to junior Blake Bolin.

Freshman Braxton Walters added another touchdown on the ground to go along with 68 rushing yards along with 3 receptions on the night.

Andrew Shanks, Mayes Gosser, and Gage Hicks also recorded catches on the night.

The Lakers forced five turnovers against Casey County, as Gage Hicks recorded two interceptions and Gavin Gossage recorded one.

Hicks also recovered a fumble. Antonio Noyola and Jack Shearer each recorded a fumble as well.

Walters and Noyola recorded 11 tackles each on the night. Larin Coffey added 10, Jack Shearer finished with 8 tackles, Parker Riggins had 7, and Braxton Smith had 6 tackles.

Kicker Yarley Medrano made all six of his point after attempts and also made his lone field goal attempt.

The Lakers enter district play this week as they travel to Warren East Friday night for a matchup with the Raiders, who enter at 1-3 and are coming off a 41-7 loss against Russellville on Friday.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
