Local unemployment saw one percent improvement last month

Unemployment in Russell County saw a one percent improvement last month compared to the year prior.

Russell County’s unemployment rate in June 2021 was 6.2 percent, compared to 7.2 percent in June 2020.

However, Russell County’s unemployment rate was among the highest in the Lake Cumberland region. Only McCreary County at 7.1 percent and Adair County at 6.3 percent were higher.

Casey County was listed at 4.9 percent, Clinton at 5.4 percent, Cumberland at 4.2 percent, Pulaski at 5.7 percent, and Wayne at 5.8 percent.

Russell County was one of 55 counties in the state that saw a decrease in unemployment from June 2020 to June 2021. Unemployment increased in 59 counties and stayed the same in six.
