RCHS teams shut out Cumberland County

The Russell County High School Lakers Baseball varsity and junior varsity squads, along with the Lady Laker Softball team, produced shutouts of district rival Cumberland County Tuesday night.

Russell County 16 – Cumberland County 0 (Varsity baseball)

Nick Aaron pitched a four-hit shutout while striking out six batters as the Lakers opened up a 12-0 lead in the first inning to cruise to an easy victory on the road at 16th District rival Cumberland County.

Nathan Lawson hit a grand-slam in the opening frame as part of a team-high 5 RBI performance. Issac Roy went 3-3 from the plate while driving in three runs, including a double and a triple.

Aaron drove in two runs, while Camden Carpenter, Gavin Gossage, Evan Hammond, and Adam Walters each drove in one run.

Russell County 15 – Cumberland County 0 (Varsity Softball)

Natalie Hart gave up four hits in total on the way to a shutout victory for the Lady Laker Softball team Tuesday.

The Lady Lakers jumped out to an 8-0 lead going into the third inning and then finished the game in the bottom of the 4th inning by adding six more runs.

The hosting Lady Lakers were led at the plate by Sophie Shearer, who went 4-4 and drove in four runs on the evening. Tarryn Reynolds had a solid day at the plate as well, going 3-3 with 3 RBI.

Hart and Emma Popplewell drove in two runs each, while Camryn Woodrum, Katie Owens, Payton Kinnett, and Addy Davis each drove in one run.

The junior varsity team also came away with a victory on Tuesday by a score of 5-4.

Russell County 12 – Cumberland County 0 (JV Baseball)

Camden Carpenter finished Tuesday’s game with a no-hitter for the Russell County JV Baseball team as the Lakers picked up a 12-0 win.

Carpenter threw four innings, walking one, and striking out 8 batters.

Brady Bell, Bryce Cowell, and Lincoln Helm drove in two runs each, while Trace Stringer and Landon Walters drove in one run each.
